The Bluegrass Boys’ Ranch Scholars Program

All applicants must meet required I.Q. standards and be eligible for free or reduced lunch.

The Bluegrass Boys' Ranch recruits students through referrals from Guidance Counselors and/or Social Workers from the Elementary Schools in Fayette and surrounding counties. An evaluation is performed by UK School Psychology Clinic that provides an IQ score. A records review of the cumulative file for the school is conducted in addition to teacher input and interview with child and family.

The scholars served by the Bluegrass Boys' Ranch reside at the facility from Sunday through Friday during the school year.  The Bluegrass Boys' Ranch provides them with all of their necessities (soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, etc.). Clothes and shoe purchases are made twice per year (August and January).

All scholars attend Bryan Station Traditional Middle School.  In addition to the academic activities at school, scholars are encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities. Each scholar is encouraged to participate in an athletic activity (football, basketball and/or track). Transportation is provided by the Bluegrass Boys' Ranch for the scholar to participate in practices and the games/meets that are held during the week.

Scholars participate in Ranch weekends six (6) to eight (8) times per year. During the weekend the scholar remains at the Ranch and there are different activities that are planned. Educational activities as well as entertaining activities occur during those weekends; such as skiing and annual trip to King’s Island.
